In the most recent issue of the Danish journal on chemistry, Dansk Kemi, patent consultant Axel Colin Heimann explains how increased focus on green technology creates new opportunities for patenting.
The most recent issue of the Danish journal on chemistry, Dansk Kemi, includes an article by Axel Colin Heimann. The patent consultant writes about socalled green patents. Increased focus on green technology creates a number of opportunities and challenges in connection with innovation and patenting, especially within energy technology, environmental chemistry and biotech.
Increased focus on green technology calls for new technological solutions. On that background, there is an opportunity for well known chemical compounds to be used in new connections, which were previously not advantageous or financially relevant. For example, construction materials, basic materials for chemical synthesis, or materials used in connection with energy generation or recycling.
"Such innovative usage creates new opportunities of patenting", explains Axel Colin Heimann in the article, which also touches upon the fact that numerous patent authorities have initiated a number of programmes to favour green innovation.
